"Doom Mood"

Artists: Toma Hurduc and Giulia Mangione
Curators: Angelica Maria și Matilda Ardeleanu
February - March 2025

About the exhibition:

Giulia Mangione & Toma Hurduc both examine existential fears and
how these anxieties shape individual identities and community ties. Their
projects grapple with the idea of an impending collapse, whether it’s the
slow build-up of disaster or the unnoticed erosion of reality, both
intimately tied to the growing threat of climate change.

About the artists:

Giulia Mangione (b. 1987, Italy) is an Italian visual artist based in Oslo, Norway, working with photography, film, and writing. With studies in Comparative Literature at Goldsmiths University of London, Fine Arts at the Academy of Art in Bergen, and Advanced Visual Storytelling at the Danish School of Media and Journalism, she published her first book, “Halfway Mountain”, in 2018 at The Photographers’ Gallery in London. The book was selected for the Prix du Livre* at Les Rencontres d’Arles and nominated for the MACK First Book Award.

Toma Hurduc (b. 2001, Romania) is a documentary photographer, currently working in Bucharest. His attention is focused on representing local underground communities and movements, which he strongly feels related to. Nowadays, his narratives are often built on top of the personal experience and relationship with the subject matter; therefore, the factual truth is often mixed with the meta, imaginative truth, aiming to question the human perception of reality, dread, anxiety, ephemerality and the construction of memory. Having an academic background in cinematography, Toma is highly interested in the way light forms images, choosing to work regularly on 35mm black and white film using a flash, as a way to render the surreal he sees in ordinary life.
