“Alifanti Bookcase. Furniture Heritage and Future Technologies”
A BAAB et co. project: Irina Niculescu, Alexandru Belenyi, Căt ălina Frâncu and Teodor Calinoiu.
An exhibition hosted by the CdRF Gallery from November 8, 2025 to December 15, 2025.
The BAAB team is exhibiting one of the very few pieces of Romanian author furniture from the 1950s, in the form of a constructive, design and structural study. The bookcase was designed by Mircea Alifanti, architect (among others, of the Political-Administrative Headquarters in Baia Mare) and professor, and we have replicated his constructive principles in a study object that will be available to the public for research and questions. At that time, the famous Bibendum chair (Eileen Grey) and Charlotte Perriand’s Nuage modular bookcase were two of the objects developed in the West that enjoyed the mass production characteristic of the period. For reasons to explore (personal and socio-political), the Alifanti bookcase remains, despite its potential, in the apartment of the two architects (Mircea and Cleopatra) until recently.
